Addiction nineteen: MINIMALISM

Had enough of extreme silhouettes, exaggerated shoulders, and sky scrapper heels? Me too! autumn/winter see’s the return of the fashion Purist! With pared-back separates polished daywear and wait for it.... the evening trousers!!

Fashion has grown up this season with the rebirth of the woman! Longer skirts, luxe cashmere jumpers, tailored trousers and the adorable kitten heel are key staples to have in your wardrobe. With the continuing economic down turn women are also making more considered purchases with function now trumping fantasy i.e. coats that turn into jackets ala Burberry. Longevity, versatility, understated and minimal are the key words and they haven’t been in fashion for a long time. It’s a seismic style shift with a welcome return to the new definition of Easy Chic!

Addiction fifteen: NAVY

Don’t go for predictable black this autumn/winter instead try its striking sibling NAVY. My tips on wearing this colour......
1.Don’t be afraid to mix navy & black!

Addiction Eight: LEATHER

CELINE Catwalk images: Monica Feudi / GoRunway.com

Don’t let the current trend of leather scare you off with visions of Billy Idol or David Hasselhoff!

Leather has become very chic and an ultimate bit of luxury for your look this season. We saw a strong leather presence on the catwalk including 3.1 Phillip Lim, Versace,
Hermès, Balmain and D&G. But no one did it better than the talented designer Phoebe Philo for Celine. She gave it a sportier feel especially with her leather tees, which I LOVE!

The great thing is you don’t need to stick to the traditional leather items like jackets or trousers you can now get leather dresses and even shorts! However to make it work you need to have leather that’s paper thin and soft. Also try alternative colours to black such as camel, beige or white.

I’m excited as this means I can FINALLY wear my BEAUTIFUL leather Chanel skirt that I got a few years ago. I’m planning on wearing it with a marble grey cotton tee from American Apparel, inspired by Agyness Deyn. I LOVE how she wears this leather skirt by Acne with a cool t-shirt, making it young and irreverent.
Even the beautiful Sandra Bullock chose to wear a black leather dress by the amazing Elie Saab for her first public appearance since her marital split.

Addiction one: CLOGS

This is a new addiction for me, I‘ve NEVER been a fan of this style of shoe, they always look so heavy and uncomfortable.

However since I’ve seen Alexa Chung wearing a pair earlier this year at the Chanel Couture show I think I’ve fallen in love! The chunky high heel worn with grey tights and classic white Chanel dress looked fantastic! Alexa clearly must be in love too as she can be seen wearing a pair on the cover of the March British edition of Vogue!

Ever since then I can’t stop thinking about clogs. In the past I have always been put off by them as I thought they would be really clunky and heavy (as I’m very clumsy I HATE heavy shoes). However while shopping for some ankle boots at Kurt Geiger (I was desperately in need of some with all the constant rain we’ve been having in London) I decided to try on pair. I was pleasantly surprised to feel how light they were. It was clearly a misconception I had.

I know clogs aren’t everyone’s taste however I know this look will be everywhere this season. So many fantastic designers have included them in their SS’10 collections; Chanel, Kurt Geiger, Jimmy Choo, Fendi, Gucci, Celine and my personal favourite Miu Miu. They have done them in the cutest prints; doves, daisies and even cats! Apparently there is already a waiting list for them and I want a pair!
